Caversham Wildlife Park

Perth, WA

Caversham Wildlife Park is a family owned and operated wildlife park inside Whiteman Park on the northern outskirts of Perth. The same Western Australian family has owned it since 1988 and in 2003 designed and built the current park, which it describes as the largest privately owned collection of native wildlife in Western Australia, with around 200 species and more than 2,000 animals, birds and reptiles. Daily experiences include meeting a koala, meeting a wombat, penguin feeding, a farm show, a kangaroo walk-through, Molly's Farm and a reptile house. The park also hosts primary and secondary school excursions and vacation care visits, runs an animal adoption program and takes tour group bookings. It opens every day except Christmas Day. Check current opening hours, admission, gift cards and any animal health notices on the official website before visiting.

Paronella Park

Mena Creek, QLD

Paronella Park is an owner-operated heritage attraction beside Mena Creek Falls in the Cassowary Coast region of Tropical North Queensland. José Paronella bought the site in 1929 and built its castle, gardens and hydro electric plant, opening the park to the public in 1935. The current owner operators purchased the park in 1993 and concentrate on maintaining and preserving the original structures and gardens rather than rebuilding them. Admission includes a guided storytelling tour of the highlights, five hectares of tropical gardens, wildlife and fish feeding, a museum, a cafe with local produce and a floodlit evening experience with a sound and light display, for which bookings are essential. The 1930s hydro electric system was restored in 2009 and again supplies the park's electricity. The Paddock, the park's own van park behind the Mena Creek Hotel, offers caravan and camping sites, with the first night included in admission when pre-booked. The park describes itself as State and National Heritage listed and a National Trust listed property. Check current opening days, ticket options and access details on the official website before travelling.
