Fullers Bookshop
Fullers Bookshop is an independent bookshop in central Hobart, established in 1920 by W. E. (Bill) Fuller and describing itself as Australia's oldest independent bookshop. The shop has changed hands several times over the century, including nearly forty years under Clive Tilsley, and has been run by Tim Jarvis since 2021. It sells new books across general and specialist categories, with a Tasmaniana section, staff favourites and curated collections, and offers online ordering, gift cards, a rewards program and audiobooks through a partner service. Fullers runs an events program that it says includes upwards of 50 launches, author talks and panel discussions each year, hosts book clubs and operates the in-store Afterword Cafe, established in 1996. Its small publishing arm, Fullers Publishing, releases a select number of Tasmanian titles each year on history, photography, poetry and other local subjects, and a literacy initiative established in 2023 gives away books to promote reading. The shop lists industry recognition including a national bookshop of the year award in 2024. Store hours and event bookings are on the official website.
